After a decade of service to affluent as well as traditionally underserved schools as a teacher, teacher developer, and building leader, Athena's focus has become to re-imagine the business of doing business by solving the problem of underestimation and underutilization of our planet's most valuable and renewable energy resources.

Her first and forever love remains the English Language—anyone can “do” it, because its few variations in rhythm, mimic the heart beat, making the sound forms playful, democratic, and consistently inconsistent.

Her workshops with independent and public school students have inspired dozens of young people to grow their greatness; participants in The Write Stuff have won over $1.25 million in scholarships and prizes.

Athena holds a B.A. in American Studies from Middlebury College and an MFA in Poetry from Bennington College. Her most recent poem appears in Sissu Magazine; her writing (the good, bad, brilliant and gory) can be found at Got Guts? www.athenafliakos.com, and a few other places easily “Googled.”

As with most of her work as a teacher, she is called by the students she has served to adopt a deeper digital channel for those who know and desire to grow The Write Stuff.

The GoodBrain Project

The GoodBrain Project was founded in 2013 with the mission to re-imagine the business of teaching and learning in the 21st Century. We create individualized experiential and multiple-modality enrichment experiences for education stake-holders within and beyond the school building that focus on outdoor engagement, arts & adventure entrepreneurship, and environmental preservation.

The GoodBrain Project powers a small sustainable apparel company and an adventure sporting brand, both of which offer education, engagement, mental health resources to individuals at risk of dropping out of school or life.

During this time, when traditional schooling models have been remanded, The GoodBrain Project is partnered with Social Sector Network; Head, Heart and Hands Consulting LLC; The United Way; CASDA; and Rotary International to offer immediate, intelligent, and joyful solutions to the problem of what to do, when there is no school!

Families of primary, middle, and secondary school are eligible for special pricing and teachers in participating districts in NY State, can be fully funded.
